What's next.

I am writing this post from my phone because I can't access my laptop right now. We'll see how this goes….

In my second post on September 3, at the end I said "what's next is next."  Meaning my next post would be about what is next. Can I say next a few more times?

Ok, one more next.  It might not be my last.  So what is next for me after retirement?  My pondering has led to:  I don't want to give up counseling others just because I am retired!

Discontinuing being licensed by the state of Colorado will allow me to counsel others without:

restrictions on what states people live in

paying for liability insurance

charting sessions and keeping medical records

making diagnoses

keeping up with continuing ed requirements

and, most importantly

without charging!

As previously discussed in my post "making plans," I'm not sure how this will turn out. It could change. So much of life is FLUX.  But for now, I want to let folks know my next step. (I knew another next was coming.)

A few of my favorite things.

From 12-2022: I am in my favorite room in our Centennial, CO house.  It is the smallest of the three bedrooms.  We use it on the rare occasion we have guests.  I have my teletherapy private practice niche in here.  It is my “prayer closet,” with a huge basket of files, journals, Bibles, daily devotionals, Al-Anon readers, notepads, pens.  It is where I am set up for Zoom meetings:  I just attended a 45 minute Mindfulness Meditation through Boston University with my MBSR guru, Elana Rosenbaum, DSW.   The two windows bring in the most beautiful morning light in the whole house, one faces east, the other south.  The largest window has a great shelf built into it.  Of course, it is full.   On this shelf are a few of my favorite things, just mine.  I have pared down my clinical social work counseling books to just a few. Blessed are the flexible.

I don't remember when I first heard this not-in-the-bible beatitude but I do love it!  There are innumerable examples of when I call upon it or share it with others but a recent need for it comes to mind. Getting "ready" for my 50th High School reunion, I picked up a few things to wear the month before.   My plan was casual and comfortable.  Low to flat shoes.  The physical therapist told me years ago to give up my TJ Maxx shoes.  No fun - no fair - compared to the platform shoes I wore in high school!  Saturday night was supposed to be dressier.  Reunion FB instructions said "whatever that means to you."  My kind of thing. While my husband was in surgery May 1, I went to the hospital gift shop - preferable over the waiting room, of course.  My love of hospital gift shops goes way back.  I sort of went off the rails at St. Vincent's gift shop when my Dad was hospitalized in 1997.  At another hospital, I bought the girls in my family...
