Blessed are the flexible.
I don't remember when I first heard this not-in-the-bible beatitude but I do love it! There are innumerable examples of when I call upon it or share it with others but a recent need for it comes to mind.
Getting "ready" for my 50th High School reunion, I picked up a few things to wear the month before. My plan was casual and comfortable. Low to flat shoes. The physical therapist told me years ago to give up my TJ Maxx shoes. No fun - no fair - compared to the platform shoes I wore in high school! Saturday night was supposed to be dressier. Reunion FB instructions said "whatever that means to you." My kind of thing.
While my husband was in surgery May 1, I went to the hospital gift shop - preferable over the waiting room, of course. My love of hospital gift shops goes way back. I sort of went off the rails at St. Vincent's gift shop when my Dad was hospitalized in 1997. At another hospital, I bought the girls in my family animal print gloves when my daughter was having her first child.
This particular visit, I went straight to the sales rack, per usual. For 1/2 off the regular inexpensive price, I found a cute top (maybe for the reunion) and a pair of wide-legged britches (in vogue these days) (for the reunion). The shop also had 5 pieces of costume jewelry for $16.99. Score!
As I was prepping for the trip, I laid out my "outfits" for the two evening events with jewelry and new shoes I'd picked up at DSW. I even took photos and shared them with Becky who couldn't attend and my 2 Hot Springs cousins Andrea and Cindi - just to get in the swing of things!
During the reunion weekend, everything went as planned for Friday night's outfit. But Saturday night, I was dressing and COULD NOT find my black pants with white polkadots. What? Where? After ALL my planning, I was flabbergasted. The search began but to no avail. I even called my husband and asked: do you see my pants there? I can't find them." What good it would have done if he had found them?! Goofy me. He searched and couldn't find. (The end of the matter: I found the pants hanging in my closet when I got home.)
I donned all as planned except I wore jeans instead. Lots of pretty gals were dressed in sequins that night but oh, well.
Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape!
Ugh, Oy. But, really, I didn't care! My sisinlaw Donna helped me punt and Saturday night was great fun. She had a black crossbody bag I wore! Maybe I've learned a thing or two in 50 years.
I totally love this quote and I’m going to share it with my fellow BSF children’s leaders!
